About this place
Lebarski sokak, the bread sellers' lane, is the old name of today's Miletićeva street, which runs between Zmaj Jovina and Jovana Subotića in the old core of Novi Sad. It appears under that name on city plans from the middle of the 18th century, taken from the bread sellers who traded in that part of town. Hungarian and German usage translated the name directly, as Kenyér utca and Brodgasse, and postcards of the street carry both forms. After the First World War it was renamed for the Serbian politician Svetozar Miletić, and it briefly bore the name of Lajos Kossuth during the Hungarian occupation of 1941 to 1944.
